History of Kolhapur


 The state of Kolhapur was established by tarabai in 1707 because of the succession dispute over the Maratha kingship.

The Kolhapur also sometimes found to be spelled as Colapore.

Most residents of Kolhapur are Hindu. The main festivals in Kolhapur are follows:- The Diwali (dipawali), Ganeshchaturthi, VijayaDashmi(Dasra),Rangpanchmi(Holi)

Brahmpuri,Kholkandoba, Rankala, Panhala and Uttareshwar were the main natural centers of Kolhapur city. Hence the Kolhapur is city is known as the historical city in Maharashtra.

The Kolhapur is the mentioned in the Devi Gita, of the Devi-Bhagvata Purana, a special text of Shaktism.

Kolhapur is an inland city located in south-west Maharashtra state, 28km south of Pune, 615km north-west of Bengaluru and 530km west of Hyderabad. Also the Chandgad is the coolest place in the Kolhapur district.

Kolhapur is also known as the DAKSHIN KASHI for its spiritual history.

There was kingdom of Shilahar in Kolhapur during 12th century AD.In 1210AD, King Sighandev of Devgiri Defeated Shilahar kingdom of Kolhapur. It was leading capital of one province of YADAV kingdom of Devgiri. In 1298 AD yadav of Devgiri were defeated and Muslim dynasty was established in Kolhapur during 1306 Ad to !307 Ad. After shri. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cconquered Panhalgad in 1659, Kolhapur became part of Maratha Kingdom. The shri.Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the one of the god Maratha kingdom.
